Armed School Officer - Arlington, TX
Job Overview
Under the indirect supervision of the School Security Sergeant, performs a wide variety of duties involved in the enforcement of laws, prevention of crimes, and maintaining the security of the school campus, students, faculty, and visitors of the school; conducts liaison between school administration, law enforcement agencies, and the public in support of the school’s goals and objectives; fosters relationships with the students, their families, and the faculty. Uses various visitor management systems to check in all visitors and contractors on campus; camera systems to locate, identify, and track suspicious and/or identified persons and activities. Delivers classroom presentations that are tailored to each grade level and topic as requested. Coordinates all emergency drills to maintain state compliance and acts as the Subject Matter Expert for all emergency planning and training. Provides support and assistance to law enforcement during emergencies and provides a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of security services and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
- Level 3 License, preferred
- Must own a full-size 9mm firearm
- Must have a valid driver license
- High School degree or equivalent
- Ability to handle physical workload
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to conduct a physical fitness assessment.
- Must be capable of passing a background check
- 21 years of age
Additional Qualifications for Consideration
- May be required to work beyond normal hours. Examples may include extra-curricular activities (sports events, club activities, dances) and emergencies such as medical emergencies, active shooter situations, and suicide intervention, to list a few.
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors which may result in exposure to inclement weather and be able to walk, run, climb, crawl, sit or stand for extended periods of time and must be able to perform all activities faced by emergency first responders.
- Ability to investigate suspicious circumstances, persons, vehicles, etc. Incumbents may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict. In extreme cases, incumbents may be exposed to violent and/or armed confrontations. This position may involve routine exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues that arise in the area of responsibility; must be able to effectively communicate with school staff, students, families, and law enforcement professionals; extensive communications (verbal and written) is required; will be responsible for managing witnesses and others when handling or responding to incidents; requires the use of sound judgment; and possess the ability to work with everyone.
- Required basic computer proficiency including the ability to operate Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other office software platforms such as incident reporting software.
- Regular attendance is required for this position.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Walk, sit or stand for extended periods.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Respond effectively during emergency situations.
- Pass Tier One physical strength and agility tests.
Training
Candidates who do not have a Level III license are required to attend a 5-day unpaid Tier One Level III training scoring a 90% or better, followed by Tier One School Based Security Response training, as well as pass the shooting range at 90% or better. Level III holders only need to take the Level III written assessment scoring 90% or better and pass the shooting range with a 90% score or better. Candidates must also pass physical strength and agility tests demonstrating the ability to perform a 50m sprint, 50m 90lb drag, 50m lateral sprint, and a 50m carry of 40lbs in less than 4 minutes. It also includes a 150lb deadlift, standing long-jump, and seated power throw.
Training and licensing fees are provided at no cost to employees prior to assignment.
Compensation
Starting pay is $20/hr.
